X Style Table Base

X Style Table Base

Here is an all-new Carolina Farm Table design that features an X Style trestle base and a solid wood top to create a Modern Farmhouse feel. We’re defining this design as our Midland Style. This sturdy table is built to last generations and will hold up against daily use.

This 6’x40″ Red Midland dining table shown here comes to life with the lively red X style trestle base. Made by hand in our shop from repurposed 2″x6″Pine boards, which we were able to reclaim locally from an old farmhouse. This table is full of character and history. It has a 1 3/4” thick top that has been hand planed and sanded, then finished with a clear coat allowing the natural color of the wood to come to life. The base was lovingly finished using our age-old Carolina Farm Table techniques, wearing the paint in all the right places. We’ve also had fun designing this Live edge Midland table! A client from Huntersville, North Carolina approached us with some really cool spalted Pecan wood. The lumber is from a old tree that was in his grandmother’s front yard. He brought us the rough cut boards straight from the sawmill & we dried it in our wood kiln then give it a new life that will stimulate gathering around for his family for many years to come. We crafted this 4’x3′ X base trestle table and a matching bench from that tree. This table has a clear coat that really shows the wild grain and color of this unique wood. We are happy to design you and your family one of these tables, and even incorporate special materials if you live in the area… So, contact us today to discuss your furniture needs!

Uplift Standing Desks

Uplift Standing Desks

The past eight months there has been a huge work from home movement happening all around us. People are now, maybe more than ever, realizing how this trend may be more than just a pandemic adjustment. They are embracing this as a lifestyle change for the better, to be with loved ones more and truly prioritize life itself. To aid in this work from home shift, we are happy to now offer adjustable standing desks! Allowing for movement throughout your workday can aid in your body’s digestion, alleviate spinal pressure and encourage blood flow. We offer a motorized desk base that can raise and lower to your desired seating or standing height. With four programmable preset heights, you can easily go from sitting in a chair to standing at your computer in 30 seconds! It can adjust low enough that even your children can use the desk for school. We can create a custom desktop-sized just for your space out of new, reclaimed or live edge hardwood. Give us a call, or email us, to discuss how to customize yours at your home or office workspace.

Orion Schoolhouse

Orion Schoolhouse

We started building dining tables over 20 years ago, and since then thousands of tables have left our shop. This massive 14-foot trestle table is one for the record books and my personal favorite. Crafted from some of the largest reclaimed chestnut boards I have ever seen!! Salvaged from an old mill in Bluefield, Virginia. These boards are 3″ thick, 13″ in width, and were brought in at almost 15′ in length. It took almost a week just to straighten and glue the tabletop. The base is built with hand-cut mortise and tenon joinery.

Next door to us, tucked in the Orion community of Ashe County, sits a thoughtfully renovated schoolhouse and chapel, built in the mid 1800s. The community Orion was named by farmers throughout our area many years ago. It is thought that Orion got its name from being “up near the stars” in the mountains. The Orion School served the community as both a place of learning and meeting from the mid 1800’s until the 1940s. Today it is used for special events and gatherings. This is the 6th table we have built for the schoolhouse and we think it is a wonderful centerpiece.

We are honored to have the opportunity to build tables for this space which will house many gatherings and celebrations for many years to come! We are also so thankful to have amazing clients that understand and support our dreams and some times crazy ideas. To be able to give these old American chestnut beams new life in this project was truly the perfect fit! We love a story steeped in rich history and character and are blessed to be a part of these special projects that will last generations. We have built several tables for wedding and event venues over the years. If you have a special project, please reach out to us!

With all the COVID-19 news going around, supporting others is an absolute must! One way of supporting others is by fueling through coffee!! Our new normal has become working from home and homeschooling our children, leaving only for essential business. Have you ever heard of coffee cupping? Me neither, until my buddy @swenkstar asked me to build two custom-sized tables for Joe Van Gogh. Kevin is in charge of the coffee bean roasting for this Hillsborough, NC coffee company. When they are finished with a new batch they will taste it right there on site. Having two 43″ tall standing tables on wheels was needed to complete the experience. The coffee is assessed by taking a spoonful of it and slurping it into the mouth. The categories assessed and scored include flavor, aftertaste, acidity, body, balance, uniformity and sweetness. These all add up to give a total score out of 100. I really enjoyed getting a tour of the operation and left with a few bags of really fresh coffee. If you need to fuel up, you can order online from this local company and have it delivered straight to your home. You can also support those working to provide for us, healthcare personnel, grocery staff and first responders who are working on the front lines. Joe Van Gogh has started a program called “Fuel for the Frontlines” to equip these folks and we love it! Cheers to health, wellbeing and community!

Weathered Gray Finish

Weathered Gray Finish

Well folks, as much as we love the mountains, we love the beach just as much! When we build one of these beauties in our shop, especially this time of year, I can’t help but think about the lovely coastal areas! This 6’x3′ farmhouse table has a weathered gray oak top and a linen white base. This piece will look fabulous in its new beach bungalow and is one of our best selling finishes for beach homes. We think it looks great with a grouping of simple steel chairs like shown and maybe some farmhouse accents and turquoise waters out the window. Sorry, I’m daydreaming ;)…

Back to the facts… This weathered gray look is not just a wood stain, we oxidize the wood. This is a chemical reaction that happens when you introduce iron to the wood. This process is most effective on red or white oak. We spray several light coats on to the oak & let it dry for 24hr. This leaves the bare unfinished wood with a gray weathered look. Next, we add a driftwood white stain to make the grain pop and then seal the table with three coats of satin sheen lacquer finishes. This commercial-grade finish is water-resistant & easy to clean. No water rings or spots will occur with normal use, unlike wax or oil finished pieces. To clean just wipe the furniture with light soapy water & dry with a soft dishcloth. You can also use any household furniture cleaner on the market. This is just an example of one of our many stain & paint options.

To see all the available finish’s go to our samples page https://carolinafarmtable.com/wood-samples or our paint color page https://carolinafarmtable.com/colors. We also offer custom colors for an upcharge. If you would like to learn more about our custom tables and finishes, please let us know. Also, if you happen to live near the coast, keep in mind we love to travel and deliver 🙂
