Custom orders

Our customization allows you to specify the exact size table and specifications you desire. We require 1/2 of the full payment upfront for all custom orders as we do for standard orders. The remaining balance is due upon shipment. We work with you individually on each custom order to ensure that we build exactly your vision. If needed, you will receive detailed drawings, supporting images, and specifications for your approval. At minimum, a verbal approval and payment is required before we begin any custom work. Upon receipt of your payment we will begin your custom project. Your project’s delivery date will be finalized once payment is received. Your completed project will be shipped once all balances are paid in full, no exceptions. Custom orders are non refundable following the 72 hour grace period. Due to the unique nature of custom pieces, all sales are final on custom orders.

Return Policy

We understand that investing in custom furniture is a big decision and we work with every client to set clear expectations of quality, wood character, color, and delivery timing prior to processing your order. All of our farm tables and furniture are custom made specific to your order. Due to the nature of our made to order model, all sales are considered final upon receipt of payment or deposit.

3 Day Change Policy

Once your deposit for custom furniture has been placed you may cancel or adjust the original order within 3 business days without incurring additional charges. Issuance of a refund or exchange following the 3 day grace period is at the sole discretion of Carolina Farm Table.

Complications with Shipping and Delivery

While it is extremely uncommon, if your furniture is delivered damaged or defective, DO NOT ACCEPT IT FROM THE CARRIER. If you accept a damaged shipment you may incur the return shipping charges. If in doubt, inspect the shipment while the carrier is on location and photo document issues when possible. This includes major breakage, scratches, chips, splinters and abrasions not intended in the original product construction. If you reject the shipment due to damage, the cost of the return shipping will be covered by the carrier. Acceptance of the damaged product implies that you, the buyer, are willing to accept or repair product at your own cost. We will repair or replace your damaged or defective furniture at our cost and/or give you a full refund as long as you have followed these return instructions. Repair or refund is at the sole discretion of Designs In Wood.

Wood Characteristics, Quality, Age, and Color

Each piece of furniture we produce is individual and unique. We use a variety of new woods as well as reclaimed lumber that may be several hundreds of years old. This wood inherently has less consistency and is more subjective to each individual eye. The beauty in our furniture is not in its perfection but rather in its utility, overall quality, and long-term durability. We cannot guarantee that any two pieces will be identical. This applies to tables, chairs, benches, and storage units as well as individual pieces of wood, knots, wood/stain colors, "character marks" such as nail holes, scratches, and open cracks, etc. Our furniture is non returnable due to wood movement, knots, nail holes, color matching, open cracks, and other natural features of solid wood construction.

Care & Maintenance

  • Everyday Care- Farm Tables are water resistant, but water should not be left on the surface for an extended period of time. Our finish is low sheen and low maintenance. No water rings or spots will occur with normal use, unlike wax finished pieces. With our pieces of furniture there is very low upkeep commitment and with regular care they should last years to come. The finish is made to handle heat, but to be cautious if it is too hot to handle with your bare hands we recommend using a pot holder or cooling rack beneath the plate or dish.

  • Cleaning- Wipe furniture with light soapy water & dry with soft dishcloth. Allow piece to completely dry before redecorating. If necessary apply a non residue buildup dust spray such as pledge. Other light cleaning products may be used on a regular basis. To remove pen marks and tough stains, try using a magic eraser. Avoid any chemical that is lacquer thinner based, such as finger nail polish remover or harsh abrasive cleaners. Do not use steel wool, but rather soft cloths or paper towels.

  • Minor Touch Ups- Mishaps can be blended in using Minwax Stain Marker. We recommend "Dark Walnut" for most repairs, to blend scratches into the finish. Have paper towel on hand to blend accordingly. For intensive damage to furniture or finish we recommend professional care for the investment of your piece.

  • Preventing Excessive Wood Movement- Our Carolina farm tables and furniture are made to allow for movement by starting with kiln dried wood, properly sealing all sides of the wood and using assembly processes which allow the wood to move. Despite our efforts, you still cannot subject furniture to excessive dry air or heat. Being too close to a wood stove or unhealthy dry heat can cause warping and cracking. Tables with breadboard ends will move with the seasons, however the breadboard end itself will not. Expect 1/8" to 1/4" movement which will be visable on the ends of the breadboard ends. If this detail is bothersome, we recommend a traditional farm style design which movement is not noticeable.
